Former Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck has explained the motivation behind his eye-catching “Siuuu” celebration following recent goals against Liverpool and Chelsea, linking the gesture to club pride and a pointed message about identity.
Welbeck, who came through United’s academy, said his performances against two of the club’s biggest rivals carried deeper meaning beyond the scoreline. “I’ve scored against Liverpool… now Chelsea. Maybe I don’t score for Manchester United anymore, but I still bleed for the club. If what I do helps them reach the Champions League, I’m happy with that. Not every legend has to still be inside the building,” he said.
The striker also addressed his decision to replicate the iconic celebration made famous by Cristiano Ronaldo, describing it as intentional and symbolic. “And yeah, the celebration… that’s Cristiano Ronaldo’s. I did it with meaning. I figured the United fans deserved to see a proper academy lad hit the Siuuu, instead of someone who forgot what a privilege it is to wear that shirt,” Welbeck added.
His comments appeared to reference Alejandro Garnacho, with whom comparisons have recently been drawn regarding attitude and connection to the club’s heritage. Welbeck, however, stopped short of direct criticism, stating: “If Alejandro Garnacho wants to take it how he wants, that’s up to him… but some of us never forget where we come from or what that badge really means.”
