Team Nigeria will compete in all six relay events at the 2026 World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, following confirmation by World Athletics in its official entry list released on Tuesday.
Nigeria had initially secured qualification in three events—the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays and the mixed 4x100m—but has now expanded its participation after receiving approval to enter additional races. The development comes after World Athletics granted member nations the opportunity to register for events they had not originally qualified for, subject to approval.

According to sources within the federation, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria applied for slots in the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays as well as the mixed 4x400m. The request, submitted through the Head of Sport Services for Competitions and Events, Carlo De Angeli, has now been approved, paving the way for Nigeria’s full participation across all relay categories.
Preparations for the global event are already underway, with the team commencing the first phase of its training camp at the Yabatech Sports Complex. Athletes and officials began assembling at the Lagos facility on Monday as part of efforts to fine-tune performance ahead of the competition.
The 2026 World Relays is scheduled to take place on May 2 and 3 in Gaborone, where top relay teams from around the world will compete for honours and qualification points for major international championships.
