The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted an unregistered truck conveying dozens of sacks of military camouflage uniforms and cartons of suspected illicit drugs, arresting four suspects in what authorities described as a major security breakthrough.
According to the police, operatives acting on credible intelligence stopped the unregistered MAN diesel truck at an exit point in Lagos State during a targeted operation. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 47 sacks containing military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of drugs suspected to be illicit substances.
The four suspects arrested during the operation are currently in police custody as investigators work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the movement of the items and identify other individuals connected to the alleged crime.
Preliminary findings by investigators indicate that the military camouflage uniforms were allegedly being transported to Nigeria’s eastern region. The discovery has raised fresh concerns over the illegal circulation of military-grade apparel, which security experts have repeatedly linked to criminal activities, including impersonation of security personnel and other unlawful operations.
Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the recovered camouflage uniforms and suspected drugs, establish ownership of the items, and identify their intended recipients. Detectives are also examining the extent of the suspects’ involvement in the operation.
The Lagos State Police Command further disclosed that efforts are underway to track down and apprehend other individuals believed to be connected to the shipment.
The latest seizure comes amid intensified security operations across the country aimed at curbing the proliferation of military accoutrements in unauthorized hands and disrupting criminal networks involved in the trafficking of illicit substances.
Authorities have assured residents that the investigation will be pursued to its logical conclusion, with all those found culpable facing prosecution in accordance with the law.
