Spanish football has been plunged into mourning following the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda, who died on Tuesday after suffering a serious injury during a league match against FC Andorra.

The 30-year-old died at 8:00 a.m., according to an announcement by Tenerife, which confirmed the tragedy in a statement published on its official social media accounts.

“Heartbroken and unable to believe it is true, we announce the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alamada on Tuesday 3 November 2026 at 8.00 am,” the club said.

“There are no words of comfort. We stand with his devastated family, loved ones and the whole CD Tenerife community.”

De Miguel was injured late in Monday’s Spanish second-division encounter between Tenerife and Andorra at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López.

The striker was involved in a challenge with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who had rushed out of his goal to intercept the ball. The collision left De Miguel seriously injured, prompting players to urgently call for medical assistance.

Medical personnel attended to him on the pitch before he was taken by ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

The match, which was level at 2-2, was abandoned in the 108th minute to allow emergency medical teams to attend to the injured player. Owono was shown a red card following the incident.

Spanish media reported that De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest following the collision and that his condition deteriorated while he was receiving hospital treatment.

Tenerife, Leganés lead tributes

Following the announcement, Tenerife expressed solidarity with the player’s family, friends and supporters, describing his death as a devastating loss for the club community.

The club later published a separate message on behalf of De Miguel’s family, thanking those who had offered support and appealing for privacy.

“The family of Jesús would like to thank everyone for their support and, from the bottom of their hearts, ask for their privacy to be respected at this terrible time,” the club said.

Former club CD Leganés also expressed shock over the news, joining the growing tributes from across Spanish football.

“We are completely shocked and devastated by this terrible loss,” Leganés said. “We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire CD Tenerife family. RIP Jesús.”

Other major Spanish clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, also issued condolence messages following confirmation of his death.

De Miguel’s football career

De Miguel, who was born in Madrid in 1996, began his senior football journey with Leganés B in 2015 before moving through several clubs in Spanish football.

He later played for teams including Unión Adarve, Burgos, Internacional de Madrid, Numancia, Unionistas de Salamanca and Castellón before joining Tenerife ahead of the 2025-26 season.

He scored 11 goals during his previous campaign and played a role in Tenerife’s promotion to Spain’s second division.

His death has renewed attention on the risks players face during high-intensity football matches, particularly in situations involving collisions between outfield players and goalkeepers.

The family has asked for privacy as it mourns the loss, while Tenerife and the wider football community continue to pay tribute to the striker.
