Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has suffered another setback following the resignation of the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Ayobami Oluwaseun Ojo, and the Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Simeon Adegbola Oyeleke.
Both officials submitted their resignation letters on Monday, November 2, 2026, announcing that their decisions would take immediate effect.
Ojo, who hails from Ago-Are in Atisbo Local Government Area, addressed his letter to Makinde through the Secretary to the State Government, referencing his appointment letter dated June 22, 2026.
In the letter, the commissioner formally announced his decision to leave the cabinet, expressing appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve the state.
“I want to express my sincere appreciation for the opportunity to serve our dear State under the administration of Your Excellency. Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour that I do not take lightly,” he wrote.
Ojo, however, did not disclose any reason for his resignation or indicate whether his decision was connected to any disagreement within the administration.
Similarly, Oyeleke tendered his resignation as Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning in a letter dated November 2, addressed to the governor through the Office of the Chief of Staff.
He expressed gratitude to Makinde for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to contribute to the administration’s policies and development programmes.
“I sincerely appreciate Your Excellency’s leadership, encouragement, support and the invaluable experience I have gained during my period of service,” Oyeleke wrote.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to the peace, progress and development of Oyo State.
However, reports on his departure indicate that Oyeleke was dissatisfied with the working environment in the administration, which he reportedly considered unconducive to pursuing and fulfilling the aspirations of his people.
Oyeleke is a former two-term member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and a former local government chairman.
More resignations hit Makinde’s administration
The latest departures add to a series of resignations involving senior officials and political appointees in Makinde’s administration.
Recently, a member of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Sunday Olugbenga Falana, also resigned his appointment.
Falana, who hails from Ogbomoso, communicated his decision in a letter addressed to the governor through the Chief of Staff. He thanked Makinde for the opportunity to serve on the state’s electoral body but did not disclose his reason for leaving.
The latest developments follow the resignation of the governor’s Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi, on October 12, 2026, another significant departure from the administration.
The succession of exits has drawn attention to the political situation in Oyo State as preparations and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
However, there has been no official confirmation that the resignations are connected or that they were prompted by a common political disagreement.
As of Monday, the Oyo State Government had not issued a detailed statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the latest departures.
The resignations leave the administration with vacancies in two key positions responsible for budget formulation, economic planning and coordination of the state’s development priorities.
