Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms during coordinated stop-and-search and patrol operations in Asaba, the state capital.

The arrests, carried out on April 23, 2026, were the result of separate intelligence-driven operations by tactical units of the Command. In the first incident, officers of the Rapid Response Squad intercepted a 28-year-old suspect, Chinoso Igwemma, along Ugbolu/Asaba Road at about 4:25 p.m. Police said his suspicious behaviour prompted a search, which led to the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol.

Authorities noted that the swift action of the operatives likely prevented a potential violent crime. The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.

In a separate operation, personnel of the Crack Squad apprehended three other suspects during a routine patrol in the Bonsaac area of Asaba. The trio—Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem, Nwabueze Kelvin, and Okonkwo Celestine—were intercepted while travelling in a tricycle and subsequently searched.

According to the police, the operation led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with a live cartridge. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects may be linked to a series of robberies targeting unsuspecting residents, with investigations ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the network.

Reaffirming the Command’s strategy, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, said the operations underscore a commitment to proactive and intelligence-led policing. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to prevent crime and dismantle criminal syndicates operating within the state.
