The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the remand of six individuals accused of plotting to overthrow the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, directing that they remain in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) pending the commencement of trial.
The defendants were arraigned before the court on a 13-count charge bordering on alleged treason, terrorism, and related offences. At the proceedings, all six suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them by the Federal Government.
Following their plea, the prosecution urged the court to remand the defendants in DSS custody and requested an accelerated hearing of the case, citing the gravity of the allegations and the need for expeditious justice. The court granted the application, ruling that the suspects be held by the DSS while ensuring they have access to their legal representatives.
The trial judge also approved an accelerated hearing schedule, signalling the court’s intention to fast-track proceedings in the high-profile case. The matter was subsequently adjourned to April 27, 2026, when the court is expected to hear bail applications and possibly commence substantive hearing.
