Obasa Wins APC Reps Ticket Unopposed for Agege Ahead of 2027 Polls

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obasa secured the party’s ticket unopposed during the APC primary election conducted across the 13 political wards in the constituency on Saturday, further cementing his dominance in Lagos politics after more than a decade as Speaker of the state assembly.

The APC chieftain had formally declared his intention to contest the federal legislative seat during a stakeholders’ meeting in Agege on May 13, where party leaders and members rallied behind his ambition.

Party delegates and members reportedly endorsed him unanimously during the primary, paving the way for his emergence as the party’s standard-bearer for the constituency.

Reacting to the outcome of the exercise, Obasa expressed appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and residents of Agege for what he described as overwhelming support and confidence in his leadership.

“I am sincerely grateful to our party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and the good people of Agege for the overwhelming support and confidence shown in yesterday’s APC House of Representatives primary election,” Obasa said in a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Sunday.

“Your massive support and the outcome of the primary are clear demonstrations of your belief in our shared vision for better representation, sustained development and stronger grassroots leadership for Agege,” he added.

The Speaker said he accepted the mandate with humility and pledged to continue serving the constituency diligently if elected into the National Assembly in 2027.

“I do not take this mandate for granted. It is a responsibility I accept with humility and total commitment to continue serving our people diligently,” he said.

Obasa outlined his priorities ahead of the general election, promising to pursue greater federal presence in Agege, youth empowerment programmes and improved social infrastructure.

“At the National Assembly, I will continue to champion the interests of Agege by pushing for more federal presence, youth empowerment opportunities, improved infrastructure, quality education, better healthcare delivery and economic initiatives that will directly impact our people,” he stated.

He also assured constituents that he would remain accessible and maintain strong grassroots engagement if elected to represent the constituency in Abuja.

“I will also remain accessible to the grassroots, maintain constant engagement with constituents and ensure that the voices of our people are heard loudly and clearly in Abuja,” Obasa added.

Describing his victory at the primary as a collective achievement, the lawmaker dedicated the outcome to loyal APC members and supporters across the constituency.

“Yesterday’s victory belongs to every loyal party member, every supporter and every resident who believes in continuity, progress and purposeful representation,” he said.

The APC House of Representatives primaries commenced nationwide on Saturday after the party’s National Working Committee made a late adjustment to the election timetable as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
