Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified offensive operations against terrorist elements in Zamfara State, recording fresh gains with the neutralisation of fighters and recovery of arms during coordinated clearance missions across multiple communities.
The latest operations, conducted in the early hours of Monday, targeted identified enclaves in key locations including Maikwanuga village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, as well as Aljumma, Gidan Dawa, Magami Didi, and Tungar Magaji villages in Maradun Local Government Area. Military sources said the coordinated assault forms part of a sustained campaign to dislodge armed groups operating within the Bagega–Sunke forest corridor.
During the advance into Tungar Magaji, troops made contact with fleeing terrorists and engaged them with what was described as “overwhelming firepower,” leading to the neutralisation of two insurgents while others escaped under pressure. No casualties were reported among the troops involved in the operation.
A subsequent sweep of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with a loaded 30-round magazine, along with a motorcycle believed to have been used for mobility by the armed group. The recovered items are now in military custody as part of ongoing intelligence exploitation.
The military said the operation underscores its continued resolve to dismantle terrorist strongholds and restrict the movement of armed groups across vulnerable rural corridors. It noted that the offensive is part of a broader strategy aimed at restoring security and enabling displaced communities to return to normal life.
Authorities reiterated that operations will continue with sustained momentum, stressing that troops remain committed to protecting lives and property within their area of responsibility. They also called on residents to support ongoing efforts by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
